Yes, I said I was tired of writing in here; yes, I said I was done ranting about Bush and his cronies...
Why is it that for two fucking weeks the media covers--almost without pausing for breath or commercials--about the swift boat "controversy" (okay they do tackle tough stories like the Kobe Bryant trial and Scott Peterson), yet we hear nothing about the fact that Halliburton is settling a fraud lawsuit where most of the illegal activity happened under Dick Cheney? How is it they can admit that they did wrong and yet Cheney remains untouchable?
I swear that they could uncover a video of Bush torturing prisoners from Guantanamo Bay or Iraq, they could show a video of Bush beheading a child and somehow that would get glossed over and we'd be back to criticizing Kerry in less than a day. The Republicans are bragging about how tens of millions of dollars more have been spent by 527s against Bush than against Kerry but the little bit of money spent against Kerry is having more of an impact. Of course it's having more of an impact...no matter what Bush does that he shouldn't or doesn't do that he should, no matter how many legitimate criticisms of him there are, it doesn't get covered or gets a glossing over. The commercial against Kerry was supposed to run in like three states, but because of constant coverage by major news sources, EVERYONE knows about it...and they know that there is criticism, they seem to miss the points about how those people didn't actually serve with Kerry, just near him, and that there's no proof that the doctor who claimed to treat his one wound actually did treat him...
What pisses me off the most is every single day of this you hear the supposed news anchors all saying things like, "how long will this continue to make news?" or, "why are we focusing so much on this and not on real issues?"
BECAUSE IT'S ALL YOU KEEP REPORTING ON, YOU STUPID FUCKS! BECAUSE YOU IGNORE THE IMPORTANT ISSUES AND CONTINUE TO HAMMER INTO THE AMERICAN PUBLIC'S FEEBLE COMMUNITY BRAIN THAT MAYBE, JUST MAYBE, KERRY DIDN'T TELL THE WHOLE TRUTH ABOUT HIS TIME IN VIET NAM! YOU GUYS ARE THE NEWS...YOU DECIDE WHAT GETS ON AND WHAT DOESN'T.
I guarantee you if the media said, "you know what...this is a bullshit issue and we're not reporting on it anymore," both sides would shut the fuck up about it and focus their attention on other things.
Another, somewhat amusing and yet terribly frightening example of the media stupidly drawing attention to things that don't need it would come from Fox & Friends this morning...
Instead of covering real issues in the couple minutes they spent on this, they chose to talk about a company in California who is marketing Halloween costumes for children so that they can dress as pimps and prostitutes...they all then expressed their personal disgust that this company would do this, but they gave the fucking website...so congratulations, you just gave the sight more attention and more people who clearly deserve to have their children taken away will be dressing those kids as pimps and prostitutes...they even mentioned that last year these costumes were available but sold poorly but they're getting talked about more this year and the costumes are being ordered in huge quantities...well congratulations, a couple of kids who would've missed this opportunity to be pimps or whores now have parents who know about the company and can make sure their kids stay on the cutting edge.
Ok, I feel better now...sort of...I mean I can find amusement in the stupidity of humans for a while, but it's still depressing as hell.
